The Frigid 5k Trail Run and Polar Plunge is hosted by Camp Maranatha located in Scottsboro, Alabama, along the shores of Lake Guntersville on the Tennessee River. Race proceeds benefit Camp Maranatha's purpose to facilitate positive life change in all who come whether as camper, guest, or staff. The Frigid 5k is comprised of three distinct events: the Frigid 5k Trail Run, the Frigid 5k 1 Mile Fun Run, and the Frigid 5k Polar Plunge. The Frigid 5k course is a loop entirely on camp property and is comprised of trail, grass, and gravel. The course begins at the center of camp. Runners start on the gravel camp road and make their way counter-clockwise around the loop. The initial climb to the ridge is gradual and long. It levels out in the woods along the ridge before descending down to the center of camp. At the base, runners turn around and go back into the woods running the same route but in the opposite direction. The Frigid 5k 1 Mile Fun Run is a flat route on the camp's gravel road. Partipants run/walk/jog half a mile to Three Crosses, one of camp's outdoor chapels overlooking Lake Guntersville, and then turn around to return the half mile back to the center of camp. The Frigid 5k Polar Plunge is optional. We encourage runners to jump from the camp dock at a given time into the cool January waters of the Tennessee River. Our primary race sponsor is AnyTime Fitness in Scottsboro.
